Research Summary

Armin Medosch has been awarded the degree of PhD at Goldsmiths, University of London, for a a practice-based PhD in Arts and Computational Technology (ACT) at Digital Studios, with Prof. Janis Jefferies. This gave him the opportunity to be deeply involved with developing and reflecting on his own artistic research methodology; in this context he co-organised a number of artistic research seminars such as taxi-to-praxi (2008) in collaboration with Adnan Hadzi, Goldsmiths 2008; and Who's afraid of artistic research (2008), with Lindsey Brown at Dundee Contemporary Arts; invited lectures on artistic research topics have been held at Kunstuniversität Linz (2009), Van Abbemuseum (2010), Eindhoven, Museum of Contemporary Arts (2011), Zagreb, and the Academy of Fine Arts (2011) Vienna.

Together with RIXC, Riga, Medosch has developed exhibitions, conferences and panels, followed by publications, whose broad direction has been research led artistic practices; most recent highlights have been the Networks and Sustainability conference track at the Textures, SLSA-EU Conference, 2010; and the Spectropia conference and reader, 2008; Medosch has acted as scientific co-editor together with Rasa Smite for the peer reviewed journal Acoustic Space edited by RIXC in collaboration with Liepaja University.

Biography

Armin Medosch has been working in media art and network culture as a practitioner, curator and writer since the 1980s. Living in Austria, Germany and the UK, he has been shaping the practice and discourse on art and technology as a curator of exhibitions, convenor of conferences, critic and theorist. His accomplishments as a practitioner have been compounded recently by having been awarded a practice-based Ph.D. in Arts and Computational Technology at Goldsmiths, University of London.
