Marx

Reading Marx

Trying to go "beyond Marx" but not yet quite there: reading Kautsky's "people's edition" in Manchester.

Primitive Accumulation: My Journey With Marx

In 2005-6 I started a little photographic project "Primitive Accumulation: My Journey With Marx". The idea was based on the insight that "primitive accumulation" is not just a historic process which happened during the transition from mercantilism to the early industrial age, but that it is ongoing, even in so called highly developed countries. There are pockets of "backwardness" which get drawn into capitalist relations, such as this Croatian bead and breakfast where this image was taken.

Notes on History and Class Consciousness

I found this book, History and Class Consciousness, Georg Lukacs, London, Merlin Press 1971-1990, very enlightening, confirming my interest in Marx and consolidating the idea to inquire the possibility of working with dialectical materialism as a methodology for my PhD. Thus I have transcribed copious notes from this book, interspersed with a few notes to myself where further to look, in terms of the continuity of this type of thought, as well as its critique. Publishing those notes in this group may or may not be of value to anyone else, I do it nevertheless.
