Magazine or Community
I would like to propose to think about the following: wouldn't it be interesting to develop this project along the lines of building a research community?
In this regard, two things come together, the need of creating high quality content with a level of editorial involvement, and the maybe sometimes contrasting need of being 'open' as a group of people who use this site all self-motivated and to their own ends.
Can both goals be joined together in an interesting way? First very tentative ideas regard the use of the user profile for collaborative filtering. For instance, we could decide to share our bibliographic references, or maybe import our delicius bookmarks and link them to the user profile.
What do you think?
:re sharing bibliographies (and more)
Yes, sharing bibli's is one of the key ideas. there must be ways of doing this a bit more intelligently, like a shared database with read and write rights for us, which could be linked to specific articles. I am sure this is possible in Drupal but dont know yet how to build, but we can say we have an agreed development goal. the first thing is to look at modules. everything that is not provided by default is likely to have had a module written for. but i am following the simple simple approach, therefore I am reluctant to install and test too many modules. they are just likely to break things or confuse me, so I only go for one once I know there is a good chance it works.
I'll post a bit later a text which i began writing on monday with some more ideas.
sharing bibliographies
I have been making my bibliog's for uni using Endnotes which is a pretty cool but proprietary tool ...maybe there is a FLOSS version of endnotes which we cd use and share here, for peeps into sharing biblio's (i wd be)
