lighthouse at sugarloaf point

lighthouse at dusk, sugarloaf point, which is around a few hills from seal rocks, central new south wales coast, eastern seaboard of australia . . . it was dark when we returned to the beach house . . . i cooked persian lamb accompanied with rice festooned with slivered almonds, dates and apple, and some salads of carrot and tomato with plum vinegar (my twin said i was brave to mix red with orange), and cauliflower with lemon and parsley from the garden. . . sadly in the haste of eating i forgot to take a photo for TNL

Sea fables and...

... give my love to the seals.

sea mammals

the seals are elusive, so much so i wonder if they still inhabit these realms, maybe they were all slaughtered by sealers in the colonial period

however there is a pod of about 6 or 7 dolphins that cross the bay every morning and afternoon, and it is so pleasurable to see them

watching the dolphins gives me a sense of what the concept of "affect" connotes . . . a sort of pre-emotional state, that can inspire action (like standing away from the computer, going down to the beach) . . . a different take on "affective labour"

from the sleeping hut i am in here at seal rocks i can hear the pacific ocean. this morning i dreamt i was giving a guest lecture at goldsmiths college in london, but i had forgotten my notes and slides (old media). the anxiety of having to freestyle, with no pictures. matt fuller was there and maybe harwood. some kind of music was playing in the room loudly, old school jungle, or dubstep. the students were friendly, and rushed to pick up the dirt from flowerpots i had emptied on the floor. i told them that there is a band in australia called Magic Dirt.

i woke and entered the main house. outside the window i saw the dolphins making there way through the narrow rocky passage between the cliff and a small island.

now i recall that last time i saw him matt fuller was researching 'art for animals' - what sort of art animals would like, or making art for animals' enjoyment. perhaps this is another good example of what armin talks about in terms of the speculative research of artists, the qualities of which are quite different in important ways from the "scientific method."

it seems that there is much that could be said about the "artistic method." i am reminded of how my son used to pay me out for being a sad internet loser in the early 1990s when I / GashGirl was addicted to LambdaMOO and i would justify my life spent there with the refrain, "But it's research!" and "I'm writing a book!" Of course he never believed me, and just said how depressing it was for him to leave for school in the morning and see me glued to the Mac SE, and I'd be in the same position, still in my pyjamas when he returned in the afternoon.

It was a long two years, and not a seal in sight, although there was the wolf . . .
