part 2 of my chapter on Hong Kong citizen journalism project
Here is part 2 of a chapter that is in 4 parts
Structure is not one of my strengths, so i am lucky that the structure of each of my 3 case study chapters was designed by 1 of my supervisors
i think it is pretty much a standard marxian approach to looking at a topic
first u have to identify the "antagonism" or motivation for the project
next u have to describe its platforms and processes
then u analyse how it is embedded in a specific culture or context
finally u talk about it in terms of being an agent for liberation/social change (this i find the hard bit ..and my part 4s for each chapter are yet to be written)
in the early days of my thesis i was gonna have a chapter for each of these 4 lines of analysis, and look at the 3 case studies for each line
but that was a real head fuck, and so we redesigned it so now each case has its own chapter
last nite (in between the all-important sci-fi viewing) i had some email to and from with my contacts at hong kong in-media, oiwan lam and chong ip, and they answered a series of questions i had about the tree sotory in this part... i am finding that perhaps the long interviews i did for my other case studies werent such a great idea..becos i ended up asking obvious questions..but it is only when u start writing u work out what u really need to ask the ppl who belong to the the projects
armin i wonder if u had a similar expeirence with ur hacking book?
anyway... here tis..again..i dont really need ppl to read this..but it feels good to upload a chapter section that is now 90% finished!

serres
i havent read him...and more than 1 friend has pointed him out to me (inc praps ms.static i think)
so thanks for the nudge! also the feedback
great chapter, very informative
there is really not much else to say. In the beginning when you talk about viruses and parasites, maybe you wish to expand that notion from a mere metaphor in the text to something more central to the understanding of such projects. You probably know Michel Serres 'the parasite' and there must be more writing out there which takes Serres' text into the digital age.
so other than going through sentence by sentence, which should not be a peer previewers role I think, I have not much more to say than I already did, this work looks well on the way, very good ...
