Technopolitics is a project that has began as a collaboration between Brian Holmes and me on these pages in 2010. Since 2011 a Technopolitics working group exists in Vienna. There is a lot of additional material which you can find spread out over Thenextlayer, so I thought for newcomers its time to collect a few basic references.

http://tnl-6.local/node/1480#comments English Article Technopolitics bibliography techno-economic paradigms Technopolitics Tue, 25 Feb 2014 09:58:38 +0000 Armin Medosch 1480 at http://tnl-6.local From Total Recall to Digital Dementia - Ars Electronica 2013 http://tnl-6.local/node/1472
Year by year Ars Electronica gets larger, greater and more successful. Shu Lea Cheang insists on calling herself a 'self-styled' artist, emphasising her autonomy to define her activities as art. Her projects highlight the potential of the coming together of social self-organisation with a social and trans-media art practice that combines landscapes and datascapes, the natural and the digital commons.

http://tnl-6.local/node/1462#comments English Article art & technology free networks Shu Lea Cheang Mon, 10 Jun 2013 15:53:32 +0000 Armin Medosch 1462 at http://tnl-6.local Die quantitative Revolution des Finanzwesens und dessen Crashs http://tnl-6.local/node/1456

http://tnl-6.local/node/1456#comments Deutsch Article Technopolitics derivatives financialization Technological Revolutions and Finance Capital technopolitics Wed, 28 Nov 2012 17:14:45 +0000 Armin Medosch 1456 at http://tnl-6.local The Cost of Knowledge campaign: the commodification & liberation of academic research http://tnl-6.local/node/1438

We humans are thinking, speaking creatures, with a theoretically limitless capacity to analyse the world around us, and, if we are lucky, to also make sense of our own internal worlds. Under informational capitalism an elite class of 'thought robbers' exploit our mental and affective capacities. We, and especially the untenured 'we', the indy intellectual 'we', or the cultural activist 'we', toil at our texts only to perhaps then witness them being padlocked inside hierarchies of knowledge which we cannot afford to access. The 'University Inc.' or 'edu-factory' and its co-dependent sibling, academic publishing, siphon the worst qualities of managerialism and profiteering to support systemised structures of knowledge enclosures. In response, the cognitariat have started to rebel. In 2012 a mathematician blogged the withdrawal of his labour from the Elsevier academic behemoth. His stance triggered worldwide solidarity. While the unfolding narrative of grassroots mobilisation resonates with the official, overly earnest Open Access movement, it seems to hold more anarchic possibilities for the cooperative creation of unfettered systems of production and exchange of knowledge.

http://tnl-6.local/node/1438#comments English Article Technopolitics info-capitalism open access the academy Fri, 12 Oct 2012 07:45:27 +0000 doll_yoko 1438 at http://tnl-6.local Vergessene Zukunft: Radikale Netzkulturen in Europa http://tnl-6.local/node/1426 Apprich C, Stalder F. 2012. Vergessene Zukunft: Radikale Netzkulturen in Europa. http://tnl-6.local/node/1426#comments Article Wed, 30 May 2012 11:14:22 +0000 Armin Medosch 1426 at http://tnl-6.local Art as Visual Research (Lecture notes) http://tnl-6.local/node/1365
This text is written in preparation for two upcoming talks and highlights a few aspects of my PhD thesis-in-progress "Automation, Cybernation and the Art of New Tendencies (1961-1973)". The text suggests the role of the imaginary both in enabling and potentially disabling this social form (i.e. the value-form as expressed in contemporary society); but it doesn't deal with the integrative processes. Some research on migrant labor struggles in the US intermodal and warehouse sectors is underway, so hopefully we will publish something on it soon. All comments welcome, changes can still be made.
