The recording is very quiet as the weather conditions were sunny and calm; however there is a slight electrical noise that I was not aware of at the time of the recording, which is common-made electro-magnetic interference for which the hydrophone needs to be balanced.</p> <object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="/sites/all/modules/contrib/audio/players/xspf_slim.swf" width="400" height="15"> <param name="movie" value="/sites/all/modules/contrib/audio/players/xspf_slim.swf" /> <param name="menu" value="false" /> <param name="quality" value="high" /> <param name="FlashVars" value="song_url=http%3A%2F%2Ftnl-6.local%2Faudio%2Fplay%2F794&song_title=PierTide" /> <embed src="/sites/all/modules/contrib/audio/players/xspf_slim.swf" flashvars="song_url=http%3A%2F%2Ftnl-6.local%2Faudio%2Fplay%2F794&song_title=PierTide" width="400" height="15" /> </object><br />3:35 minutes (4.1 MB)<p><a href="http://tnl-6.local/node/794" target="_blank">read more</a></p> http://tnl-6.local/node/794#comments English Water North-west highlands pier sea tide underwater Waves 3:35 Lindsay Tue, 13 Jan 2009 12:01:24 +0000 Lindsay 794 at http://tnl-6.local Quarry Dive http://tnl-6.local/node/791 <p>This is a clip of an audio recording of a quarry dive. The hydrophone is sitting approximately 5 metres under the water against the side of the rocks. I could not get the microphone any further under as I was seven metres or so above on a mini-cliff which meant throwing the microphone in from height. Boddam Quarry is a fresh-water training site for dive clubs, so at this point there was six divers in total in the water.</p> <object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="/sites/all/modules/contrib/audio/players/xspf_slim.swf" width="400" height="15"> <param name="movie" value="/sites/all/modules/contrib/audio/players/xspf_slim.swf" /> <param name="menu" value="false" /> <param name="quality" value="high" /> <param name="FlashVars" value="song_url=http%3A%2F%2Ftnl-6.local%2Faudio%2Fplay%2F791&song_title=QuarryTraining44" /> <embed src="/sites/all/modules/contrib/audio/players/xspf_slim.swf" flashvars="song_url=http%3A%2F%2Ftnl-6.local%2Faudio%2Fplay%2F791&song_title=QuarryTraining44" width="400" height="15" /> </object><br />3:36 minutes (4.14 MB)<p><a href="http://tnl-6.local/node/791" target="_blank">read more</a></p> http://tnl-6.local/node/791#comments English Water breathe diving fresh-water quarry rock sound amplification underwater Waves 3:36 Lindsay Sat, 10 Jan 2009 11:59:55 +0000 Lindsay 791 at http://tnl-6.local Firth of Forth http://tnl-6.local/node/790 <p>In October last year I made my first audio recording of the Firth of Forth from a diving rib that was around 500-600 metres away from the main deep shipping channel. My hydrophone was at approximately 20 metres in depth and highlights that the <a href="http://www.dosits.org/science/intro.htm">attenuation of sound</a> through water is extremely efficient. As I was making the recording, a large tanker appeared further up the estuary a couple of miles away, the noise of its engines slowly increasing until it was quite overpoweringly noisy.</p> <object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="/sites/all/modules/contrib/audio/players/xspf_slim.swf" width="400" height="15"> <param name="movie" value="/sites/all/modules/contrib/audio/players/xspf_slim.swf" /> <param name="menu" value="false" /> <param name="quality" value="high" /> <param name="FlashVars" value="song_url=http%3A%2F%2Ftnl-6.local%2Faudio%2Fplay%2F790&song_title=Forth+1" /> <embed src="/sites/all/modules/contrib/audio/players/xspf_slim.swf" flashvars="song_url=http%3A%2F%2Ftnl-6.local%2Faudio%2Fplay%2F790&song_title=Forth+1" width="400" height="15" /> </object><br />1:04 minutes (1.23 MB)<p><a href="http://tnl-6.local/node/790" target="_blank">read more</a></p> http://tnl-6.local/node/790#comments English Water Forth river sea ship sound attenuation underwater Waves 1:04 Lindsay Sat, 10 Jan 2009 11:23:17 +0000 Lindsay 790 at http://tnl-6.local Electric Chair http://tnl-6.local/node/785 <object width="500" height="377"><param name="allowfullscreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><param name="movie" value="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=2678593&amp;server=vimeo.com&amp;show_title=0&amp;show_byline=0&amp;show_portrait=0&amp;color=ffffff&amp;fullscreen=1" /><embed src="http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=2678593&amp;server=vimeo.com&amp;show_title=0&amp;show_byline=0&amp;show_portrait=0&amp;color=ffffff&amp;fullscreen=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" allowscriptaccess="always" width="500" height="377"></em </embed></object><p><a href="http://tnl-6.local/node/785" target="_blank">read more</a></p> http://tnl-6.local/node/785#comments English Elektromagnetic antennae film radio sea underwater Water Waves Wed, 31 Dec 2008 12:06:29 +0000 Lindsay 785 at http://tnl-6.local Alien Squid http://tnl-6.local/node/765 <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/SkUQt2QWz7s&hl=en&fs=1" /><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true" /><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/SkUQt2QWz7s&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> <p><a href="http://tnl-6.local/node/765" target="_blank">read more</a></p> http://tnl-6.local/node/765#comments English Research deep-sea exploration ROV squid underwater Water Waves Mon, 01 Dec 2008 15:55:43 +0000 Lindsay 765 at http://tnl-6.local Jellyfish http://tnl-6.local/node/763 <a href="/node/763"><img src="http://tnl-6.local/files/images/B:W jellyfish.thumbnail.jpg" alt="Jellyfish" title="Jellyfish" class="image image-thumbnail " width="100" height="63" /></a> http://tnl-6.local/node/763#comments Elektromagnetic Storybook pseudoscience PSI science sea-life sensitive tendrils underwater Waves Fri, 28 Nov 2008 10:46:52 +0000 Lindsay 763 at http://tnl-6.local Agatha http://tnl-6.local/node/760 <a href="/node/760"><img src="http://tnl-6.local/files/images/agatha.thumbnail.jpg" alt="Agatha" title="Agatha" class="image image-thumbnail " width="100" height="41" /></a> http://tnl-6.local/node/760#comments Elektromagnetic Storybook narrative pseudoscience PSI science sensitive telepathy translucent underwater Waves Tue, 25 Nov 2008 14:21:09 +0000 Lindsay 760 at http://tnl-6.local
