This same year also saw the development of one of the first motion picture cameras by the Lumiere Brothers. The Cinematograph, a device that acted as a camera, developer and a projector, had its first public demonstration in the form of a twelve-film screening in Paris. The Cinematograph not only pipped Thomas Edison’s Kinetoscope to the post as the first publicised machine to enable a ‘cinematic’ event, but also hailed the start of an era of innovative communication, story telling and recording of realities.

http://tnl-6.local/node/736#comments English Elektromagnetic anthropology archaeology Auge place radio sound space Water Sat, 22 Nov 2008 10:26:35 +0000 Lindsay 736 at http://tnl-6.local Lost Music http://tnl-6.local/node/664
My research today took a poetic wander. In thinking about the electromagnetic environment and how 'on land' we are submerged in modulated mumblings, my thoughts turned to the electromagnetically silent world of the deep, a world where radio and light don't penetrate, a world that can only be felt through other senses; the skin, the emotions, sound. Today I started looking at the Titanic.

http://tnl-6.local/node/664#comments English Research calm echo Hidden Histories music reflective sound Water water memory Mon, 28 Jul 2008 20:58:27 +0000 Lindsay 664 at http://tnl-6.local Titanic Hull http://tnl-6.local/node/663
This is a picture (2004) taken of the hull of the Titanic 92 years after she sunk.
